The Fault in Our Stars summary

"The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green is a heart-wrenching novel about the love story between two teenagers who both have cancer. The story is told from the perspective of Hazel Grace Lancaster, a 16-year-old girl who was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at the age of 13, and has since then been living on borrowed time.

At a cancer support group, Hazel meets Augustus Waters, a 17-year-old boy who had osteosarcoma and lost his leg to the disease. The two hit it off right away and form a deep connection. Augustus is the one who introduces Hazel to her favorite book, "An Imperial Affliction" by Peter Van Houten, and they both become obsessed with finding out what happened to the characters after the book ended.

Augustus surprises Hazel with a trip to Amsterdam, where they finally get to meet the reclusive author, Peter Van Houten. However, the encounter is far from what they had hoped for and they leave disappointed. On the flight back to the United States, Augustus reveals that his cancer has returned and has spread throughout his body, leaving him with little time left to live.

As Augustus' condition worsens, Hazel and Augustus' friend Isaac try to make the most of the time they have left together. Augustus' death is devastating for Hazel, but she finds comfort in the fact that they were able to love each other, even in the face of death. The novel ends with Hazel reflecting on the beauty and pain of life, and how our experiences shape us into who we are.
